Eating is an indispensable part of our lives. We all have to eat now and then to stay alive. At times, eating involves the satisfaction not only of our hunger but also of our cravings. This is usually accompanied by over-consumption. Predictably, we then experience stomach pains after eating.

Regrettably, this commonly experienced problem is associated to both abdominal pain and stomach spasms. There are various minor conditions responsible for stomach pain. Some serious problems could be the underlying cause of this condition. Chronic mesenteric insufficiency and stomach cancer are such complications that can cause stomach pains after eating. Pancreatitis can be identified by instant severe  stomach pains after eating a heavy meal. The pain can also come six to twelve hours after taking a heavy meal. The pain usually begins around the upper abdomen and later progresses to the sides and back. Fever, nausea and a racing heart beat may also accompany the pain.

Diverticulitis is characterized by tenderness on your lower left abdomen. This is coupled by severe stomach cramps. This condition can be particularly agonizing after taking meals.

Constipation frequently manifests itself as bloating and stomach pain after eating. This is usually followed by experiencing three or less bowel movements in a week. The stool passed is usually hard. Consumption of food that contains insufficient dietary fiber is a main cause of constipation. Minimal water intake during the day also exposes you to this condition.

Taking soft drinks, fresh fruits juices, water and other drinks right after meals, dilutes the digestive stomach acids. The right concentration of stomach acids is healthy for your digestive system. Stomach acids aid in the elimination of fungi and harmful bacteria present in food.

The dilution of stomach acids reduces your stomachs’ digestive capacity. Food fails to get broken down and digestion gets complicated. Your stomach attempts to eject the food as a result of surviving bacteria. This leads to stomach upsets.  Diarrhea can also accompany the  stomach pains.

Gastritis is stomachache that is accompanied by nausea. Eating very fast or too much is bound to lead to stomachache. A simple solution is to avoid overeating. Also letting yourself go hungry for extended periods, then suddenly taking a huge meal is recipe for stomachache.

  • Planning your meals in advance can rectify this situation.
  • Timing your meals and sticking to a healthy diet that contains all the essential food groups is important.
  • Have adequate water to drink throughout the day.
  • Take a break from drinking any water for up to an hour after your meals.
  • Remove junk food items and acidic foods from your menu.
  • Avoid sleeping right after taking a heavy meal. This is bad for your digestive health. Such poor habits interferes with your digestion, causing you stomach problems.
  • Accelerate your digestion by taking a walk after your meals.
  • Note that conditions such as heart attack and perforated stomach ulcers also contribute to  stomach pains after eating.
  • Taking asafetida can be provide relief from stomachache immediately. It can be roasted over low flames and then mixed with yogurt.
  • Identify foods that your body is allergic to by keeping a food diary. Enter all the foods you consume into the diary. This will help you narrow down the foods that cause you stomach pains after eating.
  • Consuming fennel seeds is an effective solution to gaining stomach relief. Fennel seeds can be poured into boiling water and then taken when the water becomes lukewarm. Seek medical attention if your stomachache does not subside and especially if the stomach problem recurs continually. Don’t fall into the habit of ignoring your stomach pains after eating.
  • Introduce bananas, toast and crackers into your meal plan to prevent stomach pain. Most stomach pain cases can be relieved by getting adequate rest after meals. Changing your diet and reducing your serving portions is also beneficial in these cases.

Stomach pains after eating  could be due to a serious problem especially if the condition is recurrent. Gallbladder disease is one such condition that could lead to severe stomach pain. This condition can cause severe stomach pain especially after consuming a meal that is high in fats.

Celiac disease and peptic ulcers are two other conditions that are linked to stomach cramps after meals. Celiac disease results from the body’s incapacity to break down and assimilate certain nutrients. This leads to stomach cramps and aches.

When acidic or greasy foods are included in the diet, they can attack the digestive track lining. This can then lead to severe stomach cramps. These can be the beginning of peptic ulcers that cause  stomach pains after eating.
